[Announce] Official Build Your Own V:TES Storyline Event
Even though White Wolf will no longer be creating new source material
for the classic World of Darkness, there are still more stories to be
told. In fact, your story could very well be next! White Wolf and V:EKN
are providing a way for you to influence Vampire: The Eternal Struggle's
ongoing storyline. We're offering Princes and established Clan
Newsletter Editors the opportunity to run a single Build Your Own
Storyline event each calendar year. Each Prince or Editor will be
allowed to create a story in the classic World of Darkness setting and
will design any special rules for their own local storyline event. Be
creative! The sky is the limit! Your storyline settings may be used by
White Wolf as suggested plots for future V:TES development. Now you can
create the plots and schemes, the drama, and the characters that may
become part of the official V:TES world.
SELECTION OF STORIES
====================
If the Prince or Newsletter Editor who organizes the Build Your Own
Storyline event or the player who wins the event goes on to win any
Continental Championship, we'll validate that storyline and base at
least one card on that storyline in the next available expansion.
Fortunately, a Continental Championship win isn't the only way a
storyline may be validated. White Wolf may choose to validate any
storyline it feels is particularly compelling or popular with players.
HOW TO RUN AN EVENT
===================
1. Create your story and get the word out. Let people know about the
story they'll be participating in. The only rules are that your story
must be set in the classic World of Darkness as if Gehenna hadn't
happened yet (note that there is no canonical Gehenna ending, just a few
portends, like the Week of Nightmares, the Caitiff prince, and the Red
Star--you can set your stories before or after these events, in 1996,
2005, or whatever, but always before THE END). You may wish to consider
creating a webpage that details your storyline, its participants, bios
of any fictional characters, or whatever. Later, you can add the
results of your event and any prologue that you write.
2. Request approval on the White Wolf webpage. Make sure you select
"Unsanctioned Build Your Own Storyline" in the event type field. While
these events will appear in the official calendar, they will not count
toward player ratings. You will receive an email regarding your request
within 3 weeks of your submission.
3. Feel free to use special rules (clan-based crypts, new actions,
unofficial "promo" cards for the event, or the like) to match the theme
of your event. They aren't sanctioned, so you have plenty of freedom
here to infuse your theme into the storyline games.
HOW TO REPORT THE RESULTS OF YOUR EVENT
=======================================
Include the following in your report and email it to
stories@vtesinla.org:
a) Include your full name and V:EKN number. Tell us
whether you are a Prince or Clan Newsletter author.
b) We'll need to know who won your event and the attendance numbers.
c) Report on the actual event:
i. Date and location of event (City, Region, and Country)
ii. Number of attendees
iii. Winning Player Name and V:EKN Number
iv. Anything else about your event you wish to report
d) Please include the storyline fiction you've written (the prelude
and any prologue) and a description of any special rules that were in
effect for the event. Note that your submission of your storyline event
is considered a gift to White Wolf Publishing, Inc. and any claim of
copyright or intellectual ownership you may have to the contents of your
submission are given to White Wolf Publishing, Inc.
e) Include any player quotes heard during your event. Like other
storyline events, appropriate quotes may be used as flavor text on cards
in future expansions.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
=====================
Q: Are these events replacing the coordinated, worldwide storyline
events?
A: No. Those events will continue to take place.
Q: I currently write a Clan Newsletter. How do I know if I am considered
"established"?
A: A Newsletter Editor may create an event if, on the actual event date,
they are currently the editor of a newsletter and have published at
least 6 issues in the last 12 months. Contact Peter Bakija, the Clan
Newsletter Coordinator at pdb6@lightlink.com if you aren't sure.
