Because that's what everyone thinks/knows, or because of some other reason? Like playing more often, size of the playgroup, length of playing experience?

I'm not sure they have less fun, but I'm damn sure they're not having MORE fun...

I'm VERY curious to see more of the German metagame... I've encountered Dutch and Belgians a lot now, and yes, I would say there are some Belgian players that are of very high level, that bring very 'hard' decks - but that is not a bad thing in and of itself. I've played in Prague - the level was very high/hard there as well (but still fun!). I've played in Rome - the level was high there as well, but playstyle was slightly more relaxed.

What I've seen of the Germans was good - but then again, I base much of that experience on Joscha, who apparently is highly thought of, in your group (and well he should be).

And of course, the fun we had in Utrecht recently.

Because of their Tounament-record. Everytime the Belgians and French are much better than we at our German Championships . Look at Antwerpen: Three French guys in the Final. Of course we just look at the starplayers like Kamel, Stéphane, Luk, Jo, Jan, Frederic,... They seem to have more top players than other nations. I'm pretty sure you'll find some bad players in both countries, no doubt. But I think it's amazing, how often players of these countries rock a tournament. And they don't play always extraordinary strong decks. They win by their playing-prowess, and that's admirable.

I have talked a lot with Stéphane about this subject and we have come to the conclusion that in France (esp. Paris) the spread of different playing levels is much different from here. In Paris they have a few (about 10) very good players. Quite a lot low average players and also quite some newbies/bad players. Here in germany the average player level is higher but we do not have such a outstanding top player crew as they have in Paris. And I also think that germans tend to loose VPs some times because they are playing high risk or try to do somthing funny/innovative instead of making 2 VPs and waiting for the timeout.
