Nachdem ich heute morgen meine Abschlussprüfung (hoffentlich) erfolgreich hinter mich gebracht habe, konnte ich heute nachmittag meinen Turnierreport fertigstellen. Hier ist er.

Tournament report German Championship Qualifer

I do believe in destiny. When things tend to break around me – usually things which belong to other people - luck was always on my side.

Having accidently torn apart my uncle´s couch and broke two jam glasses 3 days before the German Championship meant that luck was on my side again for the next few weeks. So instead of thinking too much about the present metagame, I grabbed one of my favorite decks – Setites with lots of Temptations - out of my deck box, added a few cards to it and wrote the decklist.

I added 2 Archon Investigation another 3 Form of Corruption and 2 Dreams of the Sphinx to the deck. As you will see in the further report, these cards to an immense impact.

After arriving in Bochum early the tournament started 30 min later than expected. 51 players showed up. Form the international view the tournament was attended by Polish, Dutch, French, Australian, Hungarian and Austrian players.

Round 1

Enikdu Rush
Obfuscate Stealth Bleed
me (Setites Temptions)
Tremere Block with Rotschreck
Martin Weinmayer Tremere / Tremere Antitribu Combat

My starting crypt was alright. I had Hesha, Ezekiel, Kephamos and Sir Marriot. My starting hand included a Sport Bike and 1 Stealth cards, some Tempations and nothing else. Well the tournament started. I influenced out Hesha first and got him equiped with a Sports Bike. My prey brought out some 3- 4 cap Tremere Weenies and played Brainwash on one of Martin´s vampires. The Enkidu player needed 3 turns to bring out his vampire. My Predator started to bleed. Neither being able nor making effort of attempting to block any bleeds, I let my Predator bleed me for 8 pool in 3 turns. I focused on bring out my second vampire and equiped Hesha with a Mister Winthrop. Hesha had now a decent + 2 Intercept. I played Temptations with Hesha than on all my Predators vampires while Ezekiel played Tempations (I redrew Stealth) on three of my prey´s vampires. I also conviced my Grand Predator to get rid of some of my Predator´s minions in order to help me survive (I had 10 pool left). Enkidu did his job since my grand predator had nothing to fear from his predator.
My prey and Martin Weinmayer had a quarrel to solve by there own. I guess this was a Tremere thingie.

After the 6th or 7th turn, I had everything under control. I was able to block any bleed attempts (thanks to the Enkidu player who eventually lend me his Rumor Mill for a 3rd intercept), I had 5 minions with Tempations so I started my offensive. It took me 2 turns to oust my prey thanks to his and my predators minions. A secure VP.

And now what? Martin had a bunch of Tremere in front of me all waiting to eat my vampires alive. From behind, the Enkidu player was close to gain his VP and be my next predator. With Potence and lots of Immortal Grapple AND a build in plus 2 hand damage. Yuck!

I tried some actions against Martin. Without any success. So I proposed a deal to him. He gets his chance to oust his prey and then we fight it out. He agreed. What happened next was that Martin marched forward and got into combat with Enkidu and Xavier. The Tremeres went down fast. I did what I could in this situation. Played Tempations on my prey (for security reasons of course), tried unsuccesfully to play Tempations on my new predator (everything was block), helped my prey´s Vampires out of torpor and did pool gaining. This went on for more than 30 minutes.

The Enkidu player was still there. Before the time ran out I asked the Martin if it was ok to disolve our deal since there was nothing we could do about Enkidu together I needed the Game Win. He said it would be alright and he understands because he could do anything against Enikdu as well.
Thanks to my security preperations some of Martins vampires mutually agreed fighting for the Greater Course of Seth. 2nd VP.

Not having to much time left and being afraid of loosing a VP through stalling, I proposed a withdraw. 3rd VP and 1st GW.

Round 2

Eurobrujah
Toreador Bleed
Anarch Combat Wall
me Setites Tempation Deck

The second round was better than expected since 4 players withouth any Stealth Bleed meant time was on my side. I influenced out one of my Setites and bleeded my prey for one. Kept the edge for several turns. My prey brought out Donal who got tempted the third round. The Toreador player got out her vamp as well. My predator started bringing out vampires and made them Anarch and equipped his minions with nasty Intercept equipement.

After I played Temptation on Donal, I did not anything aggressive to my prey for lots of turns. I waited patiently and watched the Brujah whose focus was to torporize (unsuccesfully) the Toreador player´s minions. The Brujah player brought out Theo as well. He seemed to have problems with combat cards, though. The Toreador player´s minions survived and she started to bleed my predator heavily. My predator focused on defending himself.

While waiting patiently, my vampires hunted, I got more pool through blood dolls and eventually played a Temptation on the Toreador player´s vampires (Kalista or so). When I had enough Stealth (five plus or so) I did the same thing with the vampires of my predator.

After a while I saw that the times has come to call all minions to the rightful master and fight for the greater course of Seth. I took over Donal (from my prey) and two of my predators minions. Donal who had also learned Serpentis and had one blood tried to play a Temptation on Masika. Kalista tries to block, I play Form of the Serpent – Donal without any blood still gets blocked and goes to torpor. I play superior Temptation with Stealth on Masika which had one blood, take him over, eat up Donal and vote for burning. That´s the way getting rid of two strong vampires, I`d say.

What happens next was that the Toreador player ousted the Anarch player and I ousted both the Euro Brujah and the Toreador player within 10 minutes. 3 VP and 1 GW.

Round 3

Malkavian Intercept with Protean/Roetschreck/Graverobbing
Lasombra Bleed
Lasombra Presence Vote
Tremere Intercept Roetschreck
me Setites Temptation

I do not want to lose any word on round 3. I was sitting in between two Intercept decks with Roetschreck. It was clear from the beginning that I did not have any chance to survive if I play Temptations on either my prey or my predator. My prey got lots of minions out including Muddled Hunter. My predator got out Muaziz and another Tremere which was equiped with Ivory Bow, Bowl of Convergence and a Sport Bike.

The only thing that I did was playing Temptations on the Lasombras and trying to stay alive. Not that I did not try to do something about my prey (I tried several times to get something through) but everything I did was blocked successfully. There was even one time when one of my vampire hunted, that vampire went instantly into torpor. After a while I was low on pool and I offered myself to help Johannes gaining the victory if I get a withdraw in the end. He agreed. So the tempted Lasombras helped Johannes to oust their master in a few turns. Johannes blocked all Tremeres trying to bleed me. In the end Johannes managed to oust two Methusalehs and withdrew. Another VP for me.

Final Round

Frank Inner Circle PTO shit
Erol the usual suspect Sebastian Goule and friends
Joreon van Oort Protean Wall and Combat
Robert Presence Obfuscate Stealth Bleed
me Setites Temptations

Remember the cards that I changed before I went to the tournament?

First round I played a Dreams of the Sphinx, redraw an Archon Investigation, got a vampire out with the help of the Dreams of the Sphinx and bleeded, got the edge. Kept the edge. Robert was influencing out Sir Marriot. Robert bleeded me for four I played Archon Investigation on his minion – first thread was burned. Meanwhile I had 3 Setites out. Frank pulled out Harrod, Erol pulled out Sebastian and Jereon got 2 Protean vampires out. Since I had hardly any chance of waiting until the Temptations work (Robert gave me a hard time) I bleeded with two minions a turn and played with the other minion Temptations on Erols and Roberts minions. Frank tried to PTO one of my vamps (Count Ormand which I needed in order to Deflect) I delayed. Robert bleeded me again for four, I deflect. I cannot recall what actually happened with Erol and Jereon in that time. The only thing I remember is that Frank successfully PTOed Count Ormand and banished another of my vampires. Frank was at four pool. I had ONE 3 cap and 4 pool left. 3 minions were tempted but one tempted minion (Erol´s minion) had only 2 Temptation counters but 4 blood. So I proposed Erol a deal. I try to survive and kill Frank. If I was able to kill Frank, I let Erol oust Joreon. Erol agreed since he saw that I had only one minion left and thought I would never be able to recover from my loses. He also thought that In would be easier prey than Robert who was a Stelath Bleeder.

I asked Erol to get Anarch with the minion with 4 pool. He did. Joeron did nothing. Robert was bleeding me but luckily he did not draw any Bleed cards nor Bleed modifiers. I was left at ONE pool and One minion. In my turn I took over 3 minions (all with Obfuscate) and ousted Frank, gaining 6 pool. Influenced out another Setite.

Within three turns, Erol ousted Jeroen, Robert equiped himself with Laptops (he seemed to have nothing in hand) and I used as many blood dolls and hunt actions as I could. I played Form of Corruption. Erol was thinking about offering Robert a deal but saw the chance to oust Robert. Erol took his chance and got his second VP. Meanwhile all minions had been tempted. I took over one of Erol´s minion with Form of Corruption, playing another Form of Corruption, taking over the second minion.

I managed to get out Heidelberg Castle and started to take over his minions. Within 5 or six turns Erol had only Sebastian Goule and one Ally left. I had plenty nof pool and I finally ousted Erol in the name of Seth.

This was my little report on the GQ.

Thanks to my uncle for not getting too much upset in destroying his couch. Thanks to Hardy for organising this event. Thanks to Johannes for providing the VEKN Germany vehicle. Thanks to the German governement for making it possible to drive more than 300 km within 2 hours. Thanks to Seth for believing in my skills by winning with a Setites Temptation deck. Thanks to other people´s minions helping me to achieve this victory. Thanks to everybody I forgot.

Sorry to all players for using their minions without their approval.

No surprise. :)

Table talk wins games. Nicely done.

Strong - and cool.

I was left at ONE pool and One minion. In my turn I took over 3 minions (all with Obfuscate) and ousted Frank, gaining 6 pool. Influenced out another Setite.

Within three turns, Erol ousted Jeroen,
Did Erol expect to oust Jeroen more quickly?

Interesting deal.

Congrats again.

No. Actually I expected something different from Erol. If I were Erol I would have waited to oust Jereon. I would have put Jereon at one pool or so. This way the Setites would not have gone forward which was part of the deal. And Erol could have waited to make his VP since he was placed before me.

That way Robert could have put more pressure on me. I was limited by 4 remaining Deflections. Sure - I could have stolen Robert´s tempted minions from time to time but then what? I was not allowed to bleed Erol.

If Erol would have waited until Robert would be ready again to bleed me down (I had only 2 blood dolls) and then oust Jereon at the right time, that would have been better. I also did not understand why Erol bleed out RObert so easily. He was the only one to stop me.

Collect your VPs when you can. You can never be sure of anything in V:TES except for a VP that you have collected (unless you play Gambit Accepted). This way he got 2nd, any other way .. probably 3rd or 4th. And if I remember correctly it was still a close game in the end, that could have gone in favor of Erol if he had drawn more bleed cards in time.

Was lernen wir daraus? Nicht ein gutes Deck bringt dir die Meisterschaft, Deals ebnen den Weg. Das unterscheidet einen guten Spieler von einem hervorragenden.

Meinen Glückwunsch!

It wasn't close IIRC. Two minions switched sides permanently and the rest was tempted. He was toast after ousting Robert. Erol made a big mistake by not playing it cool and he knows it. With temptated and empty minions you don't have a chance against Setites. If your minions are tempted the Setite have to die, no matter where he sits. On the long run your resources weaken yourself. Evil.
