Turnierbericht "The Stranger Among Us (is leaving)"

Damit ich eure Heldentaten (nicht die Geringste die Fahrt nach NL am Morgen nach dem Mitternachtsturnier) auch hier archivieren kann, kopiere ich den Bericht aus der Newsgroup hierher.

Hi again,

Here is a short report of the second part of
the V:TES Weekend that I organized in Utrecht
(The Netherlands) on 16/10, as a farewell party.
The winner's decklist follows at the end of the post.

After the small storyline tournament on Saturday,
many more people showed up for the main event
- a constructed tournament.

24 players engaged in challenge to win the
tournament and get the V:TES Deluxe Player's
Giude as a first prize. We had players from
different parts of the Netherlands, 5 players
from Belgium, and even 2 German players who
came directly after their "midnight tournament"
in Essen (many, many thanks, Ralf and Dietmar!!).
We also had 3 new players, participating in their
first official tournament.

I couldn't just judge in my last Dutch tournament,
so I opted for multi-judge rules and built, in the early
morning of the same day, a Gangrel antitribu dom/obf/pro
stealth & bleed deck with some Black Hand tech (Reunion
Kamut and Ministry), and protean combat (S:CE and
aggravated damage).

I had a lot of fun in the preliminary rounds (and I
hope other people did as well!). In the first round, I had
the worst possible prey (Manuel Nieman with weenie AUS),
and the former European champion Dave Bastijns as
predator with Ahrimanes, while my cross-table buddy
was the new player Wammes Mulder. All odds looked
against me, but strangely enough I was able to pass
through Manuel's defenses and bleed him out. I didn't
sweep since one of my bleeds got deflected and ousted
Wammes.

In the second round, I just bled for 1 every turn my
Ventrue obf prey (Belgian new player Koen Homblé),
who had his problems with the Shambling Hordes of his
prey (Tobias op den Brouw), who was building up very
nicely. Hi killed two preys, Yuri Nuijten with weenie KRC
and Sjoerd Postuma with Tremere, but lost some minions
in the making, and didn't have much power left in the final
duel with me (in the meanwhile I had easily ousted my
prey). So I end up with 2 GW after 2 rounds.

The third round is unusual and funny but very, very
balanced. Many twists happen between me, my
Tzimisce wall prey (Jeroen Rombouts), his big-cap
!Malk prey davy Alders, Izaak Havelaar with his pot/cel
"Thrown Junk" deck with Sewer Lids (see the Player's
Guide!) and Wouter Kuyper with a 30 Freak Drive
Mata-Hari-does-everything decks with allies. But at
the 2-hour time limit we are all still alive!

With 2 GW and 6.5 VP, I'm in good position for the
final, but not as good as Jeroen van Oort's. He
has won three tables out of three! There is a tie
for fifth place (between Ruben Van Cauwenberghe
and Peter Bouwman, both with 1 GW 4 VP), broken
by the Belgian King's face on a 2-euro coin in
favor of Ruben.

The seating of the final is then:

Paul Kock (dom/pre/for bleed) 1 GW 5 VP ->
Emiliano Imeroni (!Gangrel s&b) 2 GW 6.5 VP ->
Jeroen van Oort (!Toreador toolbox) 3 GW 10 VP ->
Luk de Ron (Giovanni Shambling) 1 GW 4.5 VP ->
Ruben Van Cauwenberghe (Eurobrujah) 1 GW 4 VP ->

I didn't know what Luk and Paul were playing,
and I didn't want to be Ruben's prey, so I chose
Paul as my predator, and this was the biggest
mistake possible. I was bled for a lot before I
could even influence out one minion, and I was
ousted within few minutes, without drawing Wakes
or Defelctions... so I had to turn to judge again.

Jeroen didn't seem to have too much trouble
in controlling his predator, since thanks to me
he had enough time to build up. Luk had some
problems with minions, and used for vampires
most of the Flash Grenades which were intended
for Shambling Hordes, but could still put some
pressure on Ruben.

While game progressed, Paul seemed the one in the
hardest situation, but the balance changed drastically
when Constanza Vinti bled for 5 and was unexpectedly
burned by an Archon Investigation! Ruben fell to Luk,
but Jeroen soon ousted Luk and had an easy game on
Paul, who had 1 minion and 1 pool left. To finish him
off, instead of bleeding, he chose the more stylish way
of rushing his minion and using the effect of Tension in
the Ranks.

So the battle and the tournament were over, and gave to
Jeroen a flawless victory with 4 GW and 13 VPs in four
games! He got his well-deserved Player's Guide and a
group picture marked the end of this very, very nice and
memorable day, for which I don't have enough words to
thank all participants enough!

THANK YOU, and I hope to see many of you again
soon in some tournament around the world!!!

Greets,
Emiliano
